1.What is column?
A column is an upright pillar or post. Columns may support a roof or a beam, or they may be purely decorative. The lower portion of a column is called the base. The upper portion of a column is called the capital. The area which the column supports is called the entablature. Classical columns are built according to the Classic Orders of Architecture as recorded in the late 1500's by the Renaissance architect, Vignola.

2.Types of Columns - Roman Column and Roman Architecture
If you are looking to make your house or building more beautiful, Roman columns can offer the best solution. Roman columns, or pillars, were designed centuries ago and are still popular today because they are stylish and versatile.
The Romans mimicked the forms of classical Greek architecture mainly due to the beautiful styles and shaft entasis. While Roman columns and Greek pillars are very similar, Roman columns usually have a slimmer shaft while standard pillars such as the Doric (Greek columns) will have differences in the bases. Details between the two types of architecture can also differ slightly.
Roman columns make any space more beautiful and unique. They can be made in various sizes, fitting anything from a small interior hallway to a large exterior portico or outside stoop. Columns add not only magnificence but also architectural and stylistic strength to a home or building, which help it to last longer and usually increasing the property value of your home.
Architectural columns are the best choice in home improvement because you can always find a classic structure to fit your style and needs. If a space calls for detailed elegance, a Corinthian style pillar may be best suited for the room. If a space is simple, a Tuscan column can add a grand and elegant appearance. Roman columns are so flexible in design, which makes them one of the greatest ways to enhance a space. They can even be made to fit around poles or other unflattering architectural structures. In your next project, include classic Roman architecture and you can be sure you will be satisfied with the look of your home.
